Docents & Volunteers
BMA Docents are trained volunteer guides who provide high-quality educational tours of the Museum’s collection and special exhibitions for close to 30,000 people annually.
While some Docents are former teachers or have a background in art, art history, the primary prerequisites are an eagerness to learn about art and a strong desire to share your knowledge and enthusiasm with others.
Prospective Docents participate in a seven-month program that encompasses collection content and touring techniques. Upon completion of the initial training program, BMA Docents are asked to be available for weekly tours and to support special programs, including the BMA's Baltimore City Schools outreach initiative Close Encounters. Docents participate in an ongoing training program from September through June, and should plan to commit to a minimum of three years of active service.
We are not currently recruiting docents however for further information, please contact Marcia Gregory at 443-573-1823 or mgregory@artbma.org.
