This basin is a type local to south China, not found in tombs near the capital on the central plain. A similar example, excavated in 1955 at Dayuangang in Guangzhou, was part of a set with wine jars, flasks, and covered boxes. Little remains of the thin glaze which covered the vessel.
The Baltimore Museum of Art by gift, 1998; acquired by donor at the Qing Ping Farmers' Market in Guangzhou between 1984 and 1986.
