This sugar bowl and the two ensuite tea canisters in the adjacent case were all made by Samuel Taylor in London. They typify the stylish silver that signaled high social and economic status in early colonial Maryland homes. The set was created for Samuel Galloway and his wife, Anne Chew Galloway, who married in 1742. All three pieces are engraved with the Arms of Galloway impaling Chew for. Galloway was a wealthy planter, merchant, and slave trader who was loyal to Britain.
