Distinctive bovine ceramic pitchers such as this were made in Swansea, Wales. Their cheerful form is close to earlier Dutch silver prototypes, notably those made by John Schuppe, who moved from Holland to England in 1750. Cow creamers were subsequently produced in both silver and pottery in Great Britain during the 19th century.
