Molded to resemble a watefall cascading over rocks, this pitcher is contemporary with the rise of landscape painting as the dominant mode of artistic expression in America during the mid-19th century. Like a painting of a forest glade, the waterfall pitcher was a way of bringing nature indoors for study and delight.
