Art After Hours: Together Alone

Baltimore’s favorite late-night art party returns to the BMA with an evening designed to encourage self-expression and new connections. Inspired by the Salman Toor: No Ordinary Love exhibition, Art After Hours: Together Alone presents visitors with evening access to galleries, including Joan Mitchell (regularly $5-15), international house music by DJ Taj and MC Noor, cocktails and appetizers by H3irloom Food Group, in-gallery poetry performances by Kelly Xio and Aeon Ginsberg, and much more.

Express your inner artist in a blind portrait drawing experience with Baltimore-based artist Kevin Sherry. Feel a sense of connection by playing the Fleeting Encounters game for your chance to make new friends, and win local experiences including free candle-making classes with KSM Candle Co., a tintype portrait session with Wormhole Workshop, and a tea tasting with Cuples Tea.

 

This event is for adults ages 21 and older. Proof of vaccination required.

About the Artists

 

Kevin Sherry

Kevin Sherry is the author and illustrator of many children’s picture books including I’m the Biggest Thing in the Ocean (Dial/Penguin), which received starred reviews in Publishers Weekly and Kirkus Reviews, and a spot in the Original Art Show hosted by the Society of Illustrators. He is also the creator of the hilarious chapter books series The Yeti Files and Squidding Around (Scholastic). He grew up in Southern New Jersey before moving to Baltimore in 2000AD to study Art at the Maryland Institute, College of Art. He’s been here since.

Kevin is also a chef, an avid cyclist, and a performer of hilarious puppet shows for kids and adults. He lives with his wonderful wife Erin and their two cats, Kinkos and Ruby.

 

Aeon Ginsberg

aeon ginsberg is a writer and performer from Baltimore City, MD. Eir writing has appeared in American Poetry Review, Nat. Brut, Baltimore Beat, and eir book “Greyhound” (Noemi Press, 2020) was a finalist for the Lambda Literary award for transgender poetry.

 

Kelly Xio

Kelly Xio loves peonies and sticky rice. Soft, sweet mangos and sitting in the sun. Kelly is a performance artist and writer whose work weaves winding, autobiographical narratives through lyrical repetition, staccato passages, and irreverent humor. Her odes to specific sites around Baltimore, Washington, D.C. and beyond imbue sterile spaces with intimate reflections of relationships and affection. In 2016, Kelly co-founded Tender FM, a free, monthly reading series in Baltimore encouraging sustained engagement with poetry by the city’s broader arts community. Kelly received the 2018 Peach Gold in Poetry from Peach Magazine, which was judged by Morgan Parker, and was named Baltimore’s Best Poet in 2016 by Baltimore City Paper. Kelly recently finished her first editorial project with Domain Press called So Since I’m Still Livin’, a free YouTube reader.
