Jazz Odyssey: The Sun Ra Arkestra

July 7 · 5:00pm – 9:00pm
BMA Members: $35 | Non-Members: $50

Jazz returns to the Sculpture Garden this summer to pay tribute to the artist Jack Whitten’s deep love of the genre. Enjoy evening access to the exhibition Odyssey: Jack Whitten Sculpture, 1963–2017, open during these special concerts from 5-7 pm. Concert doors open at 6:30 pm.

The Sun Ra Arkestra was originally led by the legendary experimental jazz pioneer and Afrofuturist philosopher, Sun Ra, from the 1950s until the 90s. The Arkestra, now under the direction of long-time band member Marshall Allen, continues to perform their outer space-inspired music internationally at the Melbourne International Jazz Festival, NYC Winter Jazzfest, Radio City Music Hall, Lincoln Center, and The John F. Kennedy Center for the Performing Arts, among many others. Tickets for the general public available April 28.
