What does it take to plan a retrospective for Joan Mitchell, an artist who is both in the grand painting tradition and a true original? Join Senior Curator for Research and Programming Katy Siegel, Associate Curator of Contemporary Art Cecilia Wichmann, and Curatorial Assistant Carlyn Thomas for a behind-the-scenes discussion about the making of Joan Mitchell, the international loans exhibition opening in March 2021. Hear about the team’s process of discovery—from research to travel, book production to exhibition design—and the surprises uncovered along the way, exploring how efforts to meet this complex artist on her own terms pushed the Museum and curatorial team beyond a traditional approach.

RSVP by December 7 to FoMaCA@artbma.org

Zoom information will be sent on December 7

Open to FoMaCA Members and BMA Council Members.
