Thank you to everyone that participated in the BMA Violet Hour: Gee's Bend Quilting Bee, produced in partnership with the African American Quilters of Baltimore (AAQB).

More than 400 people came together to create a Community Quilt benefitting Black Women Build and to hear the rich history behind the Gee's Bend quilting community and the works presented in the 2020 Vision exhibition She Knew Where She Was Going: Gee's Bend Quilts and Civil Rights, on view now at the BMA.

If you're contributing to the Community Quilt you have two options for submitting your quilt piece back to the BMA.

By Mail:

Quilt blocks should arrive at the BMA by Wednesday, April 21:

The Baltimore Museum of Art
Attn: Education
10 Art Museum Drive
Baltimore, MD 21218

Drop Off:

If it's a sunny day, stop by to drop off your quilt square at the Visitors Services tent outside the East Lobby entrance of the BMA on Wednesday, April 14, and Sunday, April 18, 10 a.m.-4:30 p.m.

The Community Quilt

A Community Quilt featuring participants' quilt squares will be constructed by Catherine Wooten of the AAQB. The resulting quilt will be displayed at the BMA from June to August 2021 in Fox Court. During that time, visitors to the Museum will have the opportunity to win the quilt. Entrants will have the opportunity to support Black Women Build, a home-ownership and wealth-building initiative that trains black women in carpentry, electrical, and plumbing by restoring vacant and deteriorated houses in West Baltimore.

Stay tuned to the BMA's Facebook and Instagram pages for updates on the Community Quilt
