Curatorial

Dr. Leslie Cozzi (she/her), FAAR’18, joined the staff of the Baltimore Museum of Art in the fall of 2018 as Associate Curator in the department of Prints, Drawings and Photographs, where she currently oversees the museum’s collection of post-1900 works on paper. At the BMA, she helped conceptualize the museum’s 2020 Vision initiative spotlighting female-identified artists with presentations of Valerie Maynard, Zackary Drucker, SHAN Wallace, and Ana Mendieta. Recent projects at the BMA include the critically acclaimed survey A Modern Influence: Henri Matisse, Etta Cone, and Baltimore; Omar Ba: Political Animals; and Darrel Ellis: Regeneration, the artist’s first major museum retrospective. Prior to her arrival at the BMA, Dr. Cozzi was a 2017-2018 Rome Prize Winner at the American Academy in Rome. Dr. Cozzi has also served as the Curatorial Associate at the Grunwald Center for the Graphic Arts at the Hammer Museum. In that capacity, she helped organize exhibitions and oversaw research and daily management of various collections the museum oversees, including the Armand Hammer Permanent Collection, the Franklin D. Murphy Sculpture Garden, and the Grunwald’s extensive collection of works on paper. She also oversaw research for major collections-based digital archives which were unveiled on the museum’s website in 2017.

In 2012, Dr. Cozzi completed her Ph.D. in contemporary art history at the University of Virginia. Her dissertation, ‘Protagonismo e non’: Mirella Bentivoglio, Carla Accardi, Carla Lonzi, and the Art of Italian Feminism in the 1960s and 1970s, was awarded a 2010-2011 Fulbright Fellowship as well as the Zora Neale Hurston essay prize by the University of Virginia’s Women and Gender Studies program. Dr. Cozzi received her BA from Yale University in 2003, where she was awarded the A. Conger Goodyear Senior Essay Prize.
