The luxurious appearance of this cruet stand, wrought of precious silver and filled with cut glass silver-capped bottles for vinegar, oil, and other liquid condiments, hardly conjures the Old French noun crue (earthen pot) from which it gets its name. Upscale cruet sets were introduced during the late 17th century. This example bears the crest of the Gilmor family of Maryland.

Inscribed: Engraved crest: Gilmor, originally owned by a member of the Gilmor family of Baltimore.
