In 1899 Vuillard published Landscapes and Interiors, a monographic album of twelve color lithographs that display his innovative and delicate style of the time. He included three interiors that feature a room covered with distinctive pink wallpaper. In this exuberant
version, Vuillard shows us his family sitting room as a confection of patterned wallpaper and glowing lamplight. Rather than focus on details of the items on the table or the woman standing in the doorway, Vuillard comes close to merging everything together so
that we are most aware of the atmosphere and energy of the room.
