Based on Manet's painting, The Smoker, 1866 (The Minneapolis Institute of Arts; Rouart and Wildenstein 112). According to Fisher, this impression "comes from the 1894 Dumont edition, typically printed on a blue-green laid paper, but this time printed with a black ink, cleanly wiped to suggest the black-and-white contrasts so integral to the design."
