Two basic ingredients of Chinese porcelain were white-firing porcelain clays
(kaolin) and a less-weathered porcelain stone derived from secondary quartz.
High-firing transparent glaze was produced with a mixture of silica and
alumina (aluminum oxide), with chalk (calcium oxide) added to lower the
melting temperature.
