Amy Sherald: American Sublime

Amy Sherald: American Sublime traces the evolution of the artist, a defining voice of her generation who transformed American portraiture. The exhibition tells the story of Sherald’s vision and practice through approximately 40 portraits created from 2007 to the present—from her early, rarely seen works to her iconic, larger-than-life portraits of Black Americans in everyday moments.

The BMA is embarking on an ambitious environmental initiative that includes a series of nine exhibitions that capture the relationships between art and the environment across time and geography, the development of a sustainability strategic plan, and a citywide eco-challenge led by the Museum.
