A PDPS Evening with Stanley Mazaroff: Inside Deconstructing Nature

We’re thrilled to offer members of the Print, Drawing, and Photography Society an exclusive opportunity to experience Deconstructing Nature—a compelling new exhibition that explores how nineteenth-century European and American artists captured, interpreted, and impacted the rapidly changing relationship between people and the natural world.

Turning to the moment when industrial capitalism first left its mark on the non-human world, Deconstructing Nature brings together extraordinary works on paper that reveal how the environment was transformed into a resource to be hoarded, shared, or exploited. Drawn exclusively from the George A. Lucas Collection—a cornerstone of the BMA’s holdings—this exhibition reconsiders these artworks through an ecological lens, opening new conversations around extraction, imperialism, and the long shadows of capitalism.

The evening will begin with a welcome from exhibition co-curator Robin Joyce, followed by a special talk from esteemed collector, author, and art historian Stanley Mazaroff, offering rare insights into the Lucas Collection and the stories behind these remarkable works. The program will conclude with a reception at Gertrude’s, featuring light bites and drinks.

RSVP by Thursday, August 21. To respond, please call 443-573-1800 or email pdps@artbma.org. Space is limited.

This exhibition is supported by the Nancy Dorman and Stanley Mazaroff Fund of the Baltimore Community Foundation and the Henry Luce Foundation.

The audio guide is made possible with support from the Getty Foundation through The Paper Project initiative.
