Opening Celebration: Joseph Education Center

It’s time for play! Gather the family and join us in celebrating the public opening of the Joseph Education Center. Explore play-inspired installations created by internationally acclaimed artists including the Dew Drop Inn by Derrick Adams, Topophilia (Tunnel) and Topophilia (Hill) by Mary Flanagan, and Flor de Juegos Antiguos (Flower of Ancient Games) by Pablo Helguera.

Experience a day of interactive activities and artmaking with artists and student volunteers from Green Street Academy. Enjoy the Dew Drop Inn with artist Derrick Adams. Meet Mary Flanagan and create your ideal world through drawing and storytelling in a Mapscotch game created by the artist. Make an imaginary space in the 3D diorama workshop with Scott Tucker and the Raunjiba Design Center team. Try something sweet and build your own dessert treat at the Sweet Indulgence Mini Dessert Bar.

Scott Benjamin Tucker

Scott Benjamin Tucker is an artist, designer, fabricator, and builder. The Brooklyn-born entrepreneur began his creative education at the Fashion Institute of Technology for interior design before receiving his BFA from Long Island University. In 2004 Tucker launched his design business in Brooklyn, NY specializing in renovation, restoration, and custom furniture design. Creating environments for experiential marketing, Tucker expanded his client base to include Fortune 500 companies such as NIKE, Evian France, LVMH, and The Apollo Theater. The furniture and interiors in his portfolio display Tucker’s dedication to delivering exceptional design with structural integrity and attention to every detail. In 2021 Tucker opened the RAUNJIBA Design Center in Baltimore City. Combining art, décor, and technology, the building houses a furniture design and prototype fabrication studio, along with a showroom space, two contemporary art galleries, and a sound stage for developing virtual and 3D content.

Green Street Academy

Anchored in West Baltimore City, Green Street Academy is a public charter school serving approximately 875 middle and high school students, offering hands-on experimental learning opportunities through several career-based programs including Construction Design and Management, Pre-Nursing, and Urban Agriculture. Our newly renovated Innovation Center opened during the height of the pandemic, providing state of the art fabrication equipment used to encourage entrepreneurial thinking and innovation. GSA scholars have access to interscholastic sports, arts programming, STEAM enrichment, before and after school programing, and one of the most robust internship programs in Baltimore City. Green Street Academy was awarded “Green School of the Year” for 2018 by the USGBC’s Green Schools National Network and its facility holds LEED Platinum energy-efficient status.

Sweet Indulgence

In 2012, Sweet Indulgence Mini Dessert Bar launched at a small local vending event hosted by friends, taking the market by storm. The business was established out of necessity following an unexpected job loss, but quickly became a reflection of the owner’s identity. Despite limited resources and minimal experience, the owner’s unwavering determination transformed a mere thought into a noteworthy brand within the local and extended community. Word-of-mouth marketing led to a surge in business opportunities in Maryland, Virginia, and DC, and even provided dessert services in New York, Pennsylvania, and Delaware.

The very foundation of Sweet Indulgence is baked with sprinkles of love, a passion shared with family, and a dream to evoke that same enchantment in all who savor its delights. Love, the most potent of ingredients in any dish, holds the power to transform and heal, that’s the secret to the SIMDB recipe. Sweet Indulgence’s miniature desserts are not just a feast for the senses but a reminder of the sweetness that dwells within us all. Each cup of deliciousness carries a message of hope and self-love, a celebration of one’s uniqueness, and a call to spread more love into the world.
