To be of the Earth is an immersive installation by V Walton, where organic life challenges the confines of the white-walled gallery. Botanicals emerge from a large cavity in the wall, sprawling over a platform of wild clay and soil. Life teems from unexpected places, transforming the gallery into an incubator for nature rather than a barrier to it.
Visual Description by V Walton
A soil platform sprawls from one end of the gallery to the other with a rich brown topsoil and wild red clay underneath, which mimics different layers of earth. Behind the platform, a cavity has been cut into the white gallery wall. The jagged edges of this cavity work as a frame for the sprawling plants that are embedded into the platform below. Other organics are mingled within and bring the installation to life.
