Visual Description

“She Always Believed the Good about Those She Loved” is a vertical oil painting on canvas, measuring 54 inches by 43 inches, of an adult woman standing in the center of the composition and gazing outward toward the viewer. She holds her left hand slightly away from her body and curls her fingers into a fist around her thumb. The figure’s skin tone is rendered in grayscale, and the painting crops her legs below the thighs. The background is a solid hue of light pastel yellow. The figure wears a navy-blue, boatneck dress with elbow-length sleeves and loose flowing skirt that falls to her knees. The dress is covered in a pattern of yellow lemons, green leaf sprigs, and tiny white-and-yellow blossoms. Seams of the fabric cross the figure’s chest and below their bust horizontally. Her hair is in an afro of thick coils, and she wears gold stud earrings.
